Ms. Shaikha Al-Hashem : A Kuwaiti voice for equality and intellectual dialogue
A week of high-level institutional exchanges in France
Shaikha Al-Hashem is a scholar and researcher in philosophy and psychoanalysis whose work explores gender studies, social transformation and women’s roles in Gulf societies. As an emerging voice in the feminist academic landscape in Kuwait, she actively contributes to research, teaching and civic initiatives promoting gender equality.
She visited France from 24 to 28 March 2025 as part of the French Future Leaders Invitation Programme (PIPA), meeting senior public officials, parliamentarians, researchers and cultural actors involved in feminist diplomacy, public policy and contemporary intellectual debates.
One of the highlights of her stay was an in-depth discussion at the French Senate with Senator Dominique Vérien, focusing on the history of feminist movements in France, Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and opportunities for dialogue with the Gulf region. These exchanges helped showcase Kuwait’s initiatives on women’s empowerment and paved the way for future academic and cultural cooperation between France and Kuwait.
