International Women's Day 2025 - Interview with Ms. Elisha Bano, former PIPA guest
As part of International Women’s Rights Day, Ms. Elisha Bano, founder of Act It Network, shares her experience within the PIPA Equality Group in 2024.
Elisha Bano is a feminist artist committed to raising awareness through art, theater, and storytelling about social issues and women's rights. As the founder of Act It Network, she mobilizes young people to use art as a tool for advocacy.
An immersion in PIPA on the theme of Equality
In November 2024, Ms. Bano had the opportunity to participate in the PIPA Equality Group, a thematic group dedicated to women’s rights, combating sexual and gender-based violence, professional equality, and feminist diplomacy. She reflects on the key meetings from this experience :
We were very grateful that we managed to meet with some senior ministers, policy makers, policy implementers, feminists, activists, entrepreneurs and we even got to visit some social incubator hubs and the first feminist concert that was held in France. This was during the 16 days of activism event.
Ms. Bano highlights the importance of public policies in promoting gender equality, ranging from feminist foreign policy to local initiatives in contraception and family planning.
She emphasizes the role of public policies in ensuring women’s representation at all levels:
During the PIPA program we learned a lot about feminist diplomacy, the importance of having a feminist foreign policy and to advance gender equality. It is really important to have policies across the different sectors, from national level leadership to corporate sector to civil societies."
Among the progress observed in France, she highlights the enshrinement of abortion rights in the French Constitution, as well as local initiatives providing support and resources to women in need.
Through her testimony, Elisha Bano perfectly illustrates one of the core missions of PIPA: supporting young leaders who are destined to play a key role in international affairs and the promotion of fundamental rights.
