PIPA welcomed its 2000th guest, Ms. Hina Lotia
From March 11 to 15, 2019, as part of the Future Leaders Invitation Programme (PIPA), Ms. Hina Lotia was invited to France to engage in discussions on sustainable development and climate change. Her visit was an opportunity for enriching exchanges with French institutions and experts working on these issues.
Who is Ms. Hina Lotia?
Ms. Hina Lotia is a recognized expert in climate change, sustainable development, and environmental policy. As a Programme Director at LEAD Pakistan, she played a key role in coordinating civil society actions during the COP21 and the One Planet Summit in Paris in 2017.
Graduated in economics from Quaid-e-Azam University (Islamabad), she has extensive experience at local, regional, and international levels in natural resource management, environmental governance, and climate resilience. She also led the team of experts that developed LEAD Pakistan’s five-year action plan, "Climate Action Program."
Highly involved in environmental discussions in Pakistan, Ms. Lotia regularly advises public authorities on necessary reforms, particularly in the areas of water and waste management.
Key Meetings
Ms. Lotia’s study visit was structured around several key themes:
- Climate change and adaptation
- Water governance and natural resource management
- The role of civil society in environmental policies
- International partnerships for sustainable development
Ms. Lotia met with experts from IDDRI, IRSTEA, IRIS, OIEau, AFD, and SUEZ. These exchanges enabled discussions on concrete issues and initiated talks on potential cooperation projects.
One notable visit in her program was to the National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC), where she met with Julien Ezanno, Bilateral Affairs Advisor in charge of promoting the French model. She also visited the headquarters of Reporters Without Borders for discussions with Célia Mercier, Head of the South Asia Desk, on environmental issues in the region.
In addition to these professional exchanges, Ms. Lotia explored French cultural heritage through a visit to the Bec Hellouin organic farm, a model of sustainable and ecological agriculture, and a boat tour on the Seine to admire Paris’s iconic landmarks.
What’s next?
At the end of her stay, Ms. Lotia expressed her satisfaction with the quality of the discussions and meetings. She emphasized the importance of continuing these collaborations, particularly in strengthening cooperation between Pakistani and French stakeholders in sustainable development.
She also showed interest in participating in future PIPA network events and contributing actively to initiatives promoting ecological transition.
